Colorado HUD Housing Programs

The Colorado HUD Housing Program is a part of the federal government Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), which was established in 1965 to create policies for housing and city expansion. Currently, Colorado HUD’s primary mission is to enforce fair housing laws in order to create a more suitable living environment for all Americans.

Colorado HUD Housing Programs

One of the main goals of HUD in Colorado is to make Colorado housing affordable and to make the opportunity for homeownership available to families who are on a limited income. This is done via programs that offer some of the following services:

• Counseling for first-time home buyers,

• Help with loan acquisition,

• Advice on avoiding foreclosure,

• Rental assistance for low-income families.

If the HUD agency in Cortez, CO is in place to help low income people avoid homelessness then why do they evict people for little or NO reason. They gave a single mother of two daughters, ages 2 and 4, less than ten days to get out of her apartment. This single mother works full time and pays her rent. The reason they gave her was the day before her eviction the babysitter had a dog at her apartment, they gave her a warning and she complied. The next day was evicted with NO right to an appeal. This is just one story of many of the same agency. Enough stories exist to fill a newspaper. Another is a similar one is a working single mother that payed her rent who got evicted for NO reason. Continued….a single mom was evicted from her apartment with NO reason given. The HUD officials in Cortez CO said they needed no reason and they keep half of everyone’s deposit. Yes everyone’s deposit. These are single working mothers that pay their rent. So HOW DOES THIS PREVENT HOMELESSNESS IN LOW INCOME FAMILIES? None of the tendants are given the right to appeal. Please read my first comment along with this one.
